DaVinci Code movie

Opus dei are expecting the film to include a disclaimer at the beginning of the movie. Is there a disclaimer in the front of the bible? Where is the outrage by these guys for that also? Why is there not a note in each bible saying this book is not to be taken literally and if you think you are going to defy science and live forever with Jesus in Utopian heaven you are scientfically ignorant. I guess because then the money thrown in the collection plates and the self-serving need to have a gullible following will cease.

Hey TX!

I'm missing you over at off the map!

I guess my comment on this is that The Da Vinci Code is an obviously fictional work.

But I think that's obvious enough that the disclaimer is ludicrous.

Thanks Peter. I'm contemplating coming back but Marty asked me a question instead of answering what I could improve on. He asked what I was trying to accomplish at OTM. I am trying to get xians to stop thinking I can be converted or find xianity justifiable. I can't. I was a xian and I don't think it is honorable. I don't see that as meeting the mission of OTM, meeting xians halfway so I'm not contributing in that fashion, so I left. Hope you are well.

TX, debate is all about trying to persuade the other person that you're right and they're wrong. If you debate Christians about Christian beliefs, it's going to feel as if they're trying to convert you, because they will try to persuade you they're right.

OTM is supposed to be about getting beyond the debates and trying to understand each other better. Maybe you don't feel like it's working very well.

I may be wrong but I'm guessing that if you asked, most/all of the regular Christian posters would say they've learned things about atheists from you they didn't know before. So I don't think it's been a waste of time you posting there - although really that's your decision to make, not mine.

I enjoyed reading your church survey and how you worked with that housing project group that was all Christians except you. That's not all I enjoyed but those are the things I remember most.

Anyway, it's up to you whether you want to post there or not. You know where to find us...

I agree, Ir,

And, TX, despite what might be seen by some as an antagonistic stance by you, you were one of my favorite posters!

Even though we TOTALLY disagree on the whole God thing. But then, it's less boring to talk with people you disagree with anyway... isn't it.

So... on point. I wish these people who are making a big deal about a freakin' MOVIE would just get over themselves. It'll probably be entertaining if you can get past the subject matter to the thriller part of the story.

Ir,
You are right. I am not debating the existance of god. I've done it before. That's why I tried to help Jayson with the banging your head against the wall analogy. YOu will never understand how an individual xian justifies god. It's in their mind and there is no way you can change their thinking. They have to do it themselves. I know, that's how I became an atheist. It's not 100% but from the 1000's of discussions I'd say it's what I've learned.

Since these are all supportive comments, I'm going to mix it up. I understand your right to freedom of speech and religion or no religion in your case, but I don't really think that it's freedom to just bad mouth people who believe in God. Yes, I am Christian, but it doesn't mean I'm a brainwashed stereotype. I think that I am very open to other ideas and am very tolerable of different beliefs than my own. To get to my point, I want to say that just because a Christian argues his faith doesn't mean he or she is trying to convert you. The video of wife swap you have on YouTube was obviously showing two extremes of religion and atheism, but I thought your comments were very smart and well thought out.

I thought that what you said at the end of the last movie about America was true, but lumping the whole Christian religion together as being striving for perfection all the time is just plain incorrect. If you have ever talked to a Christian that was not biased or extreme, they'll be happy to explain this to you. I wouldn't necessarily recommend talking to a priest, but a pastor could really set your thoughts and actually help your argument just by being more accurate. Please believe that I'm not trying to convert you. Also, please respond I would love to talk more about this subject and your personal views.
